The best preparation for writing a mystery novel is to be a mystery reader. You need to be able to rely on reflexes developed after years of reading experience. And you’ll need the devotion of a true fan to get you through the rough spots. I’ll be honest—there’s a heck of a lot that goes into writing a mystery novel.
